A quote seen on FB
"Singing in a choir is not only about community, social cohesion and harmony; for many it is an essential source of emotional well being and positive mental health. Moreover it is a powerful expression of our culture and humanity, and it cannot be allowed to fade away."

"We Sing to Touch the Spirit,
Foster a Sense of Joy,
Sharing and Community"

CELEBRATION SINGERS COMMUNITY CHOIRS
Celebration Singers are now three non-auditioned community choirs. We rehearse in two distinct terms (Fall and Spring), with performances at the end of each term. Periodically we may perform in music festivals or special events.  Director Jennifer Forsland is off on an International teaching assignment, so we are pleased to announce that Denise Marquette will take the helm of the SATB Celebration Singers and Stephanie Eakle will direct the SSAA women's ensemble, Grace Notes , accompanied by well known accompanist Sean Mooney. Choir number three, is the all male chorus the TTBB Men of Notes directed by Carol Anne Parkinson ,  accompanied by newcomer to the valley, Andrew Sims. Local guest instrumentalists are often invited to add their expertise for our concerts. Our wide-ranging repertoire includes classical pieces, ballads, pop, folk, gospel, foreign language, First Nations songs and contemporary selections, making every performance a joyful experience. Something for everyone!

New and past members are welcome, registration via the website is mandatory prior to attending first rehearsal.
There will be no walk-in registrations at the door.

More information under the JOIN tab.

Mission Statement

To sing and perform songs from a variety of musical genres
that honour our diversity and touch the spirit
To develop musical excellence and foster a sense of joy, sharing, and community

History

Comox Valley's Celebration Singers, now in its 28th year as a community choir, began humbly in 1994 when Joannie Chestnut  invited the Universal Gospel Choir to perform in the valley. This would inspire a small group of gospel music lovers to form a choir of their own. At first they met to sing in homes and later in St. George's United Church. The choir was self-directed in those early days with Bonnie Mayo as the first accompanist. As it grew it was clear that a director would be needed to take the choir forward. In 1996 Liam Bishop was brought in as the first official director, Sean Mooney joined on as the accompanist the following year and continues to be an invaluable part of the music team. In the years that followed a dedicated group of talented directors have carried the torch onward. The choir continues to be an unstoppable force, now boasting over 100 members, now in three choirs, made up of men and women of all ages and walks of life. We offer a fun, safe, warm and uplifting environment where singers of all skill levels are welcome.

We are a community choirs located in the Comox Valley, an artistic hub on beautiful Vancouver Island, B. C., Canada.
